Brand Depot builds Shopify-based marketplaces for businesses bringing multiple sellers or suppliers into a managed selling experience. We connect the storefront with seller onboarding, catalogue control, orders and the operational responsibilities behind the platform.

Define the marketplace model first

A curated multi-brand shop, a seller-managed marketplace and a trade supplier platform can need very different systems. We establish who sells to the customer, who owns stock, who fulfils orders and who handles support. Those decisions determine the technology and the ongoing workload.

Plan seller onboarding and catalogue control

The scope can include registration, approval, seller profiles and product submission. We agree which information sellers can change, what requires review and how product quality is maintained. Seller dashboards are assessed against the tasks they need to complete, rather than added as a generic feature.

Work through commissions, orders and exceptions

We document how charges are calculated and how orders reach the relevant seller or fulfilment team. Mixed-seller baskets, cancellations, partial refunds, shipping and disputes need defined handling. The marketplace operator must know which decisions can be automated and which require staff review.

Assess payments and payouts separately

Taking a customer payment and paying a seller are different workflows. We review supported providers, settlement timing, reconciliation and the proposed commercial arrangement before confirming the implementation. Automated split payments or seller payouts are not assumed to be available through a standard store setup.

Choose the right apps or custom development

Multi-vendor functionality requires suitable apps, integrations or custom development. We compare the requirements with the capabilities and costs of the proposed setup, including access permissions and maintenance. If Shopify is not a suitable foundation for the intended model, that should be identified before committing to the build.

Test the operation before inviting more sellers

We plan an initial set of seller and customer scenarios, including product approval, order handling and refunds. A controlled pilot can reveal missing responsibilities before a wider launch. Training and documentation cover both marketplace administration and the agreed seller workflows.

What the agreed project can include

  • Marketplace discovery and operating model.
  • Seller onboarding, permissions and catalogue workflows.
  • Customer storefront and seller dashboard requirements.
  • Commission, fulfilment and payout process planning.
  • App selection, custom development and integration scoping.
  • Pilot testing, administrator training and ongoing development planning.

How this can work in practice

A curated marketplace for independent brands might keep product approval with the operator while sellers handle fulfilment. A trade supplier platform may instead require account approval and quotation-led ordering. These are example models to scope, not interchangeable templates.

Frequently asked questions

Is Shopify a multi-vendor marketplace out of the box?

A standard store does not provide the complete marketplace operation described here. Appropriate apps or custom development are assessed for the required seller workflows.

Can sellers have their own dashboard?

A dashboard can be included where supported by the chosen solution. We define what sellers can view and change, then test those permissions.

Can commissions and seller payouts be automated?

We assess the app, payment provider and operating model separately. The supported process and any manual steps are confirmed before development.

What affects the cost?

Seller workflows, catalogue rules, fulfilment, payment requirements, integrations and custom development determine the scope. App fees and ongoing support are identified separately.
